Professional Fluoride Treatment in Moreno Valley

Every day, the protective outer layer of your teeth goes through a constant tug-of-war. The acids from the foods you eat and the bacteria in your mouth strip away essential minerals, while your saliva and the foods you consume help put those minerals back. When the balance shifts and your teeth lose more minerals than they gain, cavities begin to form.
At Moreno Beach Dental, we believe in giving your teeth the reinforcements they need to win that battle. Dr. Myung Kee Park, FAGD, and our dedicated hygiene team offer professional-grade fluoride treatments to actively rebuild your enamel and stop decay in its tracks. We are proud to provide this essential preventative care to families throughout Moreno Valley, Riverside, Perris, Beaumont, Redlands, Loma Linda, and Grand Terrace.
Through a process called remineralization, fluoride is absorbed into the surface of the tooth, where it bonds with calcium and phosphate. This creates a new, incredibly strong barrier that is highly resistant to future acid attacks. In some cases, professional fluoride treatments can even reverse the very earliest stages of tooth decay before a cavity fully develops.
For patients who need daily support at home, we may also recommend the CariFree cavity prevention system. CariFree’s advanced fluoride rinses and gels help maintain a healthy pH balance in your mouth, offering clinical-strength protection between your dental visits.

How Does Fluoride Protect Your Teeth?
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in water and many foods. When applied directly to the teeth, it acts like a repair kit for your enamel.Through a process called remineralization, fluoride is absorbed into the surface of the tooth, where it bonds with calcium and phosphate. Who Can Benefit from Professional Fluoride?
While fluoride is a crucial component of pediatric dentistry to help kids develop strong, healthy adult teeth, it is equally important for adults! You may be a prime candidate for extra fluoride protection if you have:- A History of Frequent Cavities: If you are prone to decay despite brushing and flossing regularly.
- Dry Mouth (Xerostomia): A lack of saliva means your mouth cannot naturally wash away food particles or neutralize acids effectively.
- Gum Recession: Exposed tooth roots do not have protective enamel and are highly susceptible to decay.
- Dental Restorations: Fluoride helps protect the vulnerable natural tooth structure surrounding your crowns or bridges.
- Orthodontic Appliances: Braces can trap food and plaque, making extra cavity prevention essential.

FAQs

Is fluoride safe for me and my children?
Yes. When used properly and in the correct doses, fluoride is an incredibly safe, naturally occurring mineral. It is recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA), the CDC, and major medical organizations as a highly effective and essential tool in preventing tooth decay.
I use fluoride toothpaste at home; do I really need professional treatments?
While daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste is critical, the concentration of fluoride in over-the-counter products is quite low. The professional fluoride varnish we apply at Moreno Beach Dental is significantly stronger and bonds to your teeth longer, providing a deeper level of remineralization that home products cannot achieve alone.
How often should I get a professional fluoride treatment?
For most patients, we recommend applying a fluoride varnish during your regular six-month checkups and cleanings. However, if Dr. Park determines you are at a high risk for cavities, we may recommend treatments every three to four months to ensure optimal protection.
What should I avoid after receiving a fluoride varnish?
The great thing about modern fluoride varnish is that it hardens almost instantly when it touches your saliva. You can eat and drink immediately after your appointment! However, we usually recommend avoiding hot beverages, alcohol, and sticky or crunchy foods for about 4 to 6 hours to allow the varnish to fully absorb into your enamel. You should also wait until bedtime to brush and floss.
