Losing even a single tooth can take a toll on your confidence and your daily life. You might find yourself hiding your smile in photos, avoiding your favorite crunchy foods, or noticing that your other teeth are beginning to shift out of place. While a traditional dental bridge is a viable option, it requires permanently filing down the healthy teeth on either side of the gap.

At Moreno Beach Dental, we believe in preserving your natural smile while providing the most advanced restorative solutions available. Dr. Myung Kee Park, FAGD, specializes in single tooth dental implants—the only tooth replacement option that perfectly mimics both the visible crown and the invisible root of your missing tooth. We are proud to provide these life-changing, permanent restorations to patients throughout Moreno Valley, Riverside, Perris, Beaumont, Redlands, Loma Linda, and Grand Terrace.

The Anatomy of a Single Tooth Implant

Dental Implant Anatomy
Unlike dentures or traditional bridges that merely rest on top of the gums, a dental implant actually integrates with your body. A complete single tooth implant is made up of three distinct parts:

  • The Implant Post: A small, biocompatible titanium screw that is surgically placed directly into your jawbone. This acts as a sturdy "artificial root," stimulating the bone to prevent future bone loss.
  • The Abutment: Once the post has firmly fused with your jawbone, a small connector piece called an abutment is attached to the top of it, sitting just above the gumline.
  • The Custom Crown: Finally, a custom-crafted porcelain dental crown is permanently cemented or screwed onto the abutment. This crown is expertly color-matched and shaped to blend flawlessly with your surrounding natural teeth.

Why Choose an Implant Over a Traditional Bridge?

When deciding how to replace a single missing tooth, dental implants offer several distinct health and aesthetic advantages over traditional dental bridges:

  • Protects Your Healthy Teeth: A traditional bridge requires us to shave down your healthy adjacent teeth to support the restoration. A single implant is completely self-supporting, leaving your neighboring teeth entirely intact and untouched.
  • Prevents Jawbone Loss: Because the titanium post acts just like a natural tooth root, it continues to stimulate your jawbone every time you chew. This prevents the bone from shrinking and preserves your natural facial structure.
  • Unmatched Longevity: While a dental bridge typically needs to be replaced every 10 to 15 years, a well-cared-for dental implant post can easily last for the rest of your life.
  • Easy to Clean: You don't need any special floss threaders or tools. You simply brush and floss a single tooth implant exactly the same way you clean your natural teeth!

A Smooth, Comfortable Process

We utilize state-of-the-art 3D imaging to precisely plan the exact angle and depth of your implant before your procedure even begins. This ensures maximum safety, a faster surgery, and optimal aesthetic results.

During the placement of the titanium post, your mouth will be completely numb with local anesthesia, and we offer calming sedation options like Nitrous Oxide to ensure you remain entirely relaxed. Over the next few months, your jawbone will naturally fuse around the titanium post (a process called osseointegration), creating a rock-solid foundation for your beautiful new porcelain crown.

How long does the entire single implant process take?
Because we have to wait for your body to naturally heal and fuse with the titanium post, the entire process usually takes between 3 to 6 months from start to finish. If you require a bone graft prior to placing the implant, the timeline will be slightly longer. We will provide you with a temporary tooth during this time so you never have to go without a smile!
Am I a good candidate for a single tooth implant?
Most healthy adults are excellent candidates! The two most important requirements are having healthy gums (free of periodontal disease) and having enough jawbone density to securely hold the implant. If you have suffered some bone loss, Dr. Park can perform a simple bone graft to rebuild the area and make you a candidate.
Will people be able to tell I have a fake tooth?
Absolutely not. Dr. Park works with master dental ceramists to craft your final porcelain crown. We meticulously match the shade, translucency, and shape to perfectly mirror your surrounding natural teeth. Once placed, even you might forget which tooth is the implant!
Can a dental implant get a cavity?
No, the materials used for your implant post and porcelain crown are entirely artificial and cannot decay. However, the gum tissue surrounding the implant can still become infected if you do not brush and floss properly. Maintaining excellent daily oral hygiene and visiting us for routine cleanings is essential to keeping your implant secure for life.
