Even with a perfect at-home brushing and flossing routine, your teeth still need professional attention to stay in peak condition. At Moreno Beach Dental, routine dental exams and cleanings are the cornerstone of a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Dr. Myung Kee Park, FAGD, and our skilled team are dedicated to providing meticulous, comfortable preventative care. We don't just look for cavities; we assess your entire oral ecosystem to catch potential issues early, saving you from discomfort and costly treatments down the road. We are proud to provide top-tier preventative dentistry to families throughout Moreno Valley, Riverside, Perris, Beaumont, Redlands, Loma Linda, and Grand Terrace.

What to Expect During Your Comprehensive Dental Exam

When you visit us for a checkup, you receive far more than a quick look at your teeth. Dr. Park uses his elite FAGD training and state-of-the-art technology to perform a complete evaluation of your oral health:

  • Advanced Diagnostics: We utilize low-radiation digital X-rays to see what the naked eye cannot—checking the roots of your teeth, your jawbone health, and looking for decay hidden between teeth.
  • Precision Bacterial Testing: If you are prone to decay or gum issues, we may utilize OralDNA® Labs salivary testing to identify the specific bacteria causing your symptoms, allowing for a highly personalized treatment plan.
  • Oral Cancer Screening: Dr. Park performs a thorough, painless screening of your soft tissues, lips, neck, and throat to detect any early signs of oral cancer or abnormal cell growth.
  • Bite and Jaw Evaluation: We assess your bite alignment and check for signs of bruxism (teeth grinding) or TMJ disorders to protect the structural integrity of your smile.

The Importance of Professional Teeth Cleanings

Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on your teeth. If it isn't completely brushed away, it hardens into tartar (calculus), which can only be safely removed by a dental professional. During your visit, our gentle registered dental hygienists will:

  • Remove Plaque and Tartar: Meticulously clean above and below the gumline to prevent periodontal disease and tooth decay.
  • Polish Your Enamel: Gently polish away surface stains caused by coffee, tea, and food, leaving your teeth feeling glass-smooth and looking noticeably brighter.
  • Provide Personalized Education: We will review your at-home routine and may recommend specialized products, like the CariFree cavity prevention system, to help you balance your oral pH and actively fight off decay between visits.

How often should I get a dental exam and cleaning?
For most patients, we recommend visiting Moreno Beach Dental every six months for a routine exam and cleaning. However, if you are prone to cavities, have a history of gum disease, or have certain medical conditions, Dr. Park may recommend visiting us every three to four months to keep your oral health optimally maintained.
Do professional dental cleanings hurt?
Routine dental cleanings should not be painful! Our dental hygienists are highly trained to be as gentle as they are thorough. If you have sensitive teeth or sensitive gums, please let us know before we begin. We can adjust our techniques or offer desensitizing options to ensure you are completely comfortable throughout your appointment.
Why do I need X-rays during my exam?
Digital X-rays are a crucial diagnostic tool. They allow Dr. Park to see beneath the surface of your enamel and gums to detect hidden decay, bone loss, cysts, or infections that are completely invisible to the naked eye. Catching these issues early is key to conservative, minimally invasive treatment.
Will a professional cleaning whiten my teeth?
While a routine cleaning is not a professional teeth-whitening treatment, it will absolutely make your smile look brighter! Our polishing process removes the daily surface stains that accumulate from food and drinks. If you are looking for a more dramatic, brilliantly white result, just ask us about our cosmetic teeth whitening services.
