Your smile is a signature part of who you are, but if you are constantly hiding your teeth due to chips, deep stains, or gaps, you aren't letting your true personality shine. Achieving a picture-perfect, radiant smile doesn't have to involve years of orthodontic treatments or multiple complex procedures.

At Moreno Beach Dental, Dr. Myung Kee Park, FAGD, and our artistic cosmetic team specialize in designing breathtaking smile makeovers using custom porcelain veneers. By combining clinical precision with a deep understanding of facial aesthetics, we create stunning, natural-looking results for patients throughout Moreno Valley, Riverside, Perris, Beaumont, Redlands, Loma Linda, and Grand Terrace.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made shells of medical-grade ceramic that are permanently bonded to the front-facing surfaces of your teeth.

They are widely considered the gold standard in cosmetic dentistry because dental porcelain beautifully mimics the exact light-reflecting properties, texture, and translucency of natural tooth enamel. Once bonded into place, veneers instantly completely mask a wide variety of cosmetic imperfections, including:

  • Severe Discoloration: Covering deep intrinsic stains (like those from medications or fluoride) that traditional teeth whitening cannot fix.
  • Chipped or Worn Teeth: Restoring the natural length, shape, and symmetry to teeth worn down by grinding or age.
  • Gaps and Spacing: Seamlessly closing wide spaces (diastemas) between the teeth.
  • Minor Misalignment: Often referred to as "instant orthodontics," veneers can make slightly crooked or uneven teeth appear perfectly straight without braces.

Porcelain Veneers vs. Composite Veneers

When considering a smile makeover, you generally have two main materials to choose from: Porcelain or Composite Resin. While both offer beautiful results, they have different advantages depending on your budget, timeline, and long-term goals.

Here is a quick breakdown to help you compare:

FEATURE
PORCELAIN VENEERS
COMPOSITE VENEERS
Aesthetics
Unmatched realism; highly translucent and reflects light exactly like natural enamel. Excellent, but slightly less translucent than porcelain.
Durability
Highly durable; resists chipping and fracturing. Typically lasts 10 to 15+ years. Moderately durable; more prone to chipping. Typically lasts 4 to 8 years.
Stain Resistance
Exceptional. Porcelain is non-porous and will not stain from coffee, tea, or wine. Moderate. Composite resin is porous and can accumulate surface stains over time.
Treatment Time
Requires 2 visits (preparation and final placement) plus laboratory fabrication time. Usually completed in a single, convenient office visit.
Tooth Preparation
Requires a tiny amount of enamel removal to ensure a seamless fit (irreversible). Requires little to no enamel removal (often reversible).
Cost
Higher initial investment, but lasts significantly longer. Lower upfront cost, making it a great budget-friendly alternative.

Do porcelain veneers ruin your natural teeth?
Not at all. To ensure your veneers sit flush with your gumline and don't look bulky, Dr. Park only removes a microscopic layer of enamel from the front of your tooth (about the thickness of an eggshell or a contact lens). The underlying core of your tooth remains healthy, strong, and intact.
Does the veneer process hurt?
Your comfort is our priority. We use a gentle local anesthetic during the preparation phase to ensure you do not feel any pain while the teeth are being reshaped. You may experience some very mild sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures while wearing your temporary veneers, but this fades quickly once the permanent porcelain is bonded in place.
Can I still eat normally with porcelain veneers?
Yes! Once permanently bonded, porcelain veneers are incredibly strong. You can eat all your favorite foods. However, just like with natural teeth, you should avoid using your veneers to bite into extremely hard non-foods (like ice, pens, or opening packaging), as this can cause the ceramic to chip.
Will my porcelain veneers stain over time?
You care for them exactly like your natural teeth! Brush twice a day, floss daily, and maintain your regular six-month checkups at Moreno Beach Dental. We do recommend switching to a non-abrasive toothpaste, as highly abrasive whitening pastes can scratch the polish on the porcelain over time.
