Pediatric Dental Sealants in Moreno Valley

Kids are still learning the ropes when it comes to brushing and flossing. Even the most diligent little brushers often have trouble reaching the very back of their mouths. At Moreno Beach Dental, we want to make cavity prevention as easy and stress-free as possible for your family.
Dr. Myung Kee Park, FAGD, and our gentle pediatric team offer dental sealants as an invisible, highly effective armor for your child's growing smile. We are proud to provide this essential, proactive treatment to kids and teens throughout Moreno Valley, Riverside, Perris, Beaumont, Redlands, Loma Linda, and Grand Terrace.
These crevices are often much narrower than a single bristle on a toothbrush, making it physically impossible for your child to clean out all the trapped food and sticky plaque. Left unprotected, these deep grooves become the perfect breeding ground for "sugar bugs" and rapid tooth decay.
Once the liquid flows into the deep grooves and hardens, it creates a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Think of it like placing a sturdy raincoat over the tooth—when cavity-causing bacteria and food particles try to settle into the deep crevices, the sealant simply blocks them out, stopping decay before it ever has a chance to start!

Why Back Teeth Are So Vulnerable
When your child's permanent molars and premolars first erupt, they aren't perfectly smooth. The chewing surfaces are filled with deep, narrow grooves and tiny pits. These crevices are often much narrower than a single bristle on a toothbrush, making it physically impossible for your child to clean out all the trapped food and sticky plaque. What Are Pediatric Dental Sealants?
A dental sealant is a thin, safe, biocompatible plastic coating that is carefully painted directly onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth.Once the liquid flows into the deep grooves and hardens, it creates a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Think of it like placing a sturdy raincoat over the tooth—when cavity-causing bacteria and food particles try to settle into the deep crevices, the sealant simply blocks them out, stopping decay before it ever has a chance to start!
A Fast, Fun, and Drill-Free Experience
One of the best things about dental sealants is how incredibly easy they are to apply. The entire process takes just a few minutes per tooth, and there are absolutely no needles, no drills, and no numbing required.During your child's routine visit, we apply sealants in four simple steps:
- Clean: We thoroughly clean and dry the target tooth.
- Prep: A mild conditioning gel is applied for a few seconds to gently roughen the enamel, helping the sealant form a strong bond.
- Paint: The tooth is rinsed and dried, and the liquid sealant is brushed right onto the chewing surface.
- Shine: We use a cool blue curing light to instantly harden the sealant into a durable shield. Your child can eat and drink normally right away!

FAQs

What age should my child get sealants?
We highly recommend applying sealants as soon as the permanent molars erupt. The first set of permanent molars usually comes in around age 6, and the second set around age 12. Protecting them immediately gives your child the absolute best chance at a cavity-free childhood.
Do dental sealants hurt?
Not at all! The application process is completely painless. To your child, it simply feels like getting their teeth painted. It is a fantastic, stress-free procedure that helps young children build confidence and trust in the dental chair.
How long do pediatric sealants last?
With proper care, sealants can protect your child's teeth for up to 10 years. However, they can naturally wear down or chip over time from chewing hard foods, crunching on ice, or teeth grinding. Dr. Park will check the condition of their sealants during every six-month checkup and can easily touch them up or replace them if needed.
Can you see the sealants when my child smiles?
No. Sealants are either completely clear or slightly tinted to blend in perfectly with the natural color of the tooth. Because they are only applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, they are virtually invisible when your child talks, laughs, or smiles.
