Protect Your Smile with Dental Sealants in Moreno Valley

Even with the most dedicated brushing and flossing routine, it can be incredibly difficult to clean every tiny corner of your mouth. The chewing surfaces of your back teeth (molars and premolars) are filled with deep, narrow grooves where food particles and plaque love to hide.
At Moreno Beach Dental, we believe in stopping cavities before they ever have a chance to form. Dr. Myung Kee Park, FAGD, and our preventative care team offer dental sealants as a highly effective, invisible shield to protect those vulnerable areas from decay. We are thrilled to provide this conservative, proactive treatment to patients of all ages throughout Moreno Valley, Riverside, Perris, Beaumont, Redlands, Loma Linda, and Grand Terrace.
Think of a sealant like a raincoat for your tooth. When cavity-causing bacteria and dietary acids try to attack the enamel, the sealant blocks them from settling into the deep crevices, effectively preventing decay from taking root.

What Are Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are thin, biocompatible plastic coatings that are painted directly onto the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. Once applied, the sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the enamel, creating a smooth, easy-to-clean surface.Think of a sealant like a raincoat for your tooth. Who Can Benefit from Sealants?
While they are most commonly associated with children, dental sealants are a fantastic preventative measure for patients of almost any age!- Children and Teens: The most common time to get sealants is as soon as the permanent molars and premolars erupt (usually between ages 6 and 12). By protecting these teeth right away, we can keep them cavity-free during the cavity-prone childhood and teenage years.
- Adults: You never outgrow the need for preventative care! Adults who have deep pits and fissures in their molars, or those who are highly prone to decay, can benefit immensely from sealants, provided those teeth do not already have fillings or decay.
A Quick, Painless, and Easy Application
Getting dental sealants is one of the easiest and most comfortable procedures in dentistry. It requires no drilling, no numbing, and no downtime. During your routine hygiene visit, our team can apply sealants in just a few simple steps:- Cleaning: The target tooth is thoroughly cleaned and dried.
- Prep: A mild conditioning gel is briefly applied to slightly roughen the surface, helping the sealant form a strong bond.
- Application: The tooth is rinsed and dried again, and the liquid sealant is painted onto the enamel.
- Curing: We use a special blue curing light to instantly harden the sealant into place. You can eat and drink normally right after your appointment!

FAQs

Do dental sealants hurt to get?
Not at all! The application process is completely painless and non-invasive. There are no needles or drills involved, making it a very stress-free experience, especially for younger patients or those with dental anxiety.
How long do dental sealants last?
With proper care, dental sealants can protect your teeth from decay for up to 10 years. However, they can naturally wear down or chip over time due to heavy chewing or teeth grinding. Dr. Park will check the condition of your sealants during your regular six-month checkups and can easily replace them if necessary.
Can people see my sealants when I talk or smile?
No. Dental sealants are either completely clear or slightly tinted to match the natural color of your teeth. Because they are applied strictly to the chewing surfaces of your back molars, they are virtually invisible to anyone else.
Do I still need to brush and floss if I have sealants?
Absolutely! Sealants only protect the specific chewing surfaces where they are applied. They do not protect the smooth sides of the teeth or the tight spaces between them. Daily brushing, daily flossing, and the use of preventative products like CariFree are still crucial to keeping your whole mouth healthy.
