Sleep Dentistry & General Anesthesia in Moreno Valley

For some patients, a warm blanket and a little laughing gas simply aren't enough to overcome deep-rooted dental trauma or severe phobia. In other cases, a patient may need years' worth of extensive restorative work, or they may have special healthcare needs that make sitting still in a dental chair physically impossible. If any of this sounds like you or a loved one, we want you to know that you still have options, and you never have to force yourself to "just get through it."
At Moreno Beach Dental, we offer the ultimate solution in comfort: general anesthesia. Dr. Myung Kee Park, FAGD, partners with licensed anesthesia professionals to provide true "sleep dentistry." We are proud to offer this safe, deeply relaxing, and life-changing service to patients throughout Moreno Valley, Riverside, Perris, Beaumont, Redlands, Loma Linda, and Grand Terrace, allowing you to wake up to a beautiful, healthy smile without any memory of the work being done.
When under general anesthesia, you are entirely asleep. You will not hear the sounds of the dental instruments, you will not smell the dental materials, and most importantly, your brain will not register any pain whatsoever. Because you are completely unresponsive, this level of sedation requires the continuous presence of a highly trained, licensed professional whose sole job is to closely monitor your vitals, heart rate, and breathing while Dr. Park focuses entirely on restoring your smile.

What is General Anesthesia in Dentistry?
While mild sedatives like nitrous oxide help you relax while remaining awake, general anesthesia puts you into a state of completely controlled, deep unconsciousness. When under general anesthesia, you are entirely asleep. Who is a Candidate for Sleep Dentistry?
General anesthesia is an incredible tool that breaks down the barriers to essential healthcare. Dr. Park may recommend this level of sedation if you:- Have Severe Dental Phobia: If your fear of the dentist is so paralyzing that it prevents you from getting necessary treatments, putting your overall health at risk.
- Need Extensive Procedures: If you require complex oral surgery, multiple extractions (like all four impacted wisdom teeth), or full-mouth reconstruction, putting you to sleep allows us to complete multiple appointments' worth of work in just one single visit.
- Have Special Needs: It is an excellent, safe option for patients with cognitive or physical disabilities who cannot safely sit still or understand the dental process.
- Are Resistant to Local Anesthetics: A small percentage of patients have a genetic resistance to numbing medications. General anesthesia ensures they feel absolutely no pain.

FAQs

Is general anesthesia safe?
Yes. When administered in a highly controlled clinical setting by a licensed professional, general anesthesia is very safe. We follow strict, hospital-grade safety protocols and continuously monitor your blood pressure, oxygen levels, and heart rhythm from the moment you fall asleep until you are fully awake.
Will I remember anything about my dental procedure?
No, you will have absolutely no memory of the procedure. To you, it will feel as though you simply closed your eyes for a brief nap and woke up a second later with your dental work completely finished!
Can I drive myself home after being put to sleep?
Absolutely not. General anesthesia takes several hours to fully leave your system. Your motor skills, reflexes, and judgment will be significantly impaired for the remainder of the day. You are legally required to have a trusted adult drive you to your appointment, wait in the office during your procedure, and drive you safely home afterward.
Do I need to fast before my appointment?
Yes. To prevent complications while you are asleep, you will be required to strictly fast (no food and no liquids, including water) for at least 8 hours prior to your scheduled procedure. We will provide you with specific, detailed pre-operative instructions during your consultation.
